FAQ

So why should I play lacrosse at Alabama?

First, this is a great place to get a college education. The University of Alabama is consistently ranked among the top universities in the world. There is no better combination of respected academics, top-ranked athletics and overall college atmosphere in the country. Check out UA's website or take a virtual tour of campus.

Second, Alabama provides a highly competitive lacrosse experience without the pressure and time-commitment of NCAA lacrosse. Our players are expected to dedicate themselves to the team, but are given the latitude to focus on academics.

Who does the team play?

Alabama is a member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association The MCLA is made up of over 200 teams in 10 conferences that represent every region of the country. These teams include all the big schools without NCAA programs like Texas, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, Virginia Tech, etc.

Alabama is a Division 1 member of the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC), a conglomerate conference of 20 ACC & SEC schools. All of the teams in the SELC are programs that operate as "virtual varsities."

Is there a Conference Tournament? National Tournament?

Yes, The SELC Tournament takes place the last weekend of April in Atlanta. The winner of the tournament, gets an automatic bid to the National MCLA Tournament in late May (held in Greenville, SC). Other bids go to the 9 other conference champions, while at-large bids generally go to the remaining highest ranked teams that didn't receive automatic bids. The MCLA National Championship has picked up significant popularity recently, as it and many other tournament games are broadcast nationally on Fox College Sports (FCS).

Where are your players from? What is the talent level like?

At Alabama, we have had multiple players who have transferred from D3 schools to come play for us including Salisbury, Dickinson, Lynchburg & St. Mary's. Most players for Alabama have 6-7 years of experience and have started at the varsity level.

We currently have multiple players from Baltimore, Long Island, Atlanta, Birmingham, Buffalo, New Jersey, the DC Area, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Northern VA, Texas, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, and California.
